Tax Helper support

Most questions can be resolved without sharing any tax information.

Web form

Click or tab into the field.

A common offline explanation opens beside the field. If Tax Helper needs more context, use the question-mark button or the keyboard shortcut. An online request never starts from focus alone.

PDF form

Open the companion beside the PDF.

Chrome’s PDF viewer is isolated from extensions, so clicking a PDF field cannot open in-page help. Choose Open PDF companion from the Tax Helper toolbar popup and use the printed label.

Troubleshoot by symptom

Start with what you can see.

These checks do not require sharing a return, a screenshot, or anything entered into the form.

The helper does not appear on a web form

Open the Tax Helper toolbar icon and confirm the site is active. Reload the page once, then click or tab into the field. Tax Helper does not run in Incognito mode.

A PDF field does not react

Chrome does not let extensions place controls inside its built-in PDF viewer. Open the Tax Helper toolbar icon, choose Open PDF companion, then select a common topic or type the printed field label.

The field match looks wrong

Use the official-instructions link in the explanation to verify the field. If you contact support, send only the printed field label and what you expected to see.

The form or line is not covered

The offline glossary does not cover every field yet. In Settings & privacy, Help improve coverage can record missed labels locally. Nothing is sent automatically.

Keyboard, zoom, or screen reader access is difficult

Tab into the field or press Alt+Shift+H while the field is focused. Tell us your input method, zoom level, and assistive technology so we can reproduce the barrier.

Installation or updating is stuck

Open Chrome’s Extensions page, confirm Tax Helper is enabled, and note the version shown in the toolbar popup. The current public release is available from the Chrome Web Store.

An online explanation is unavailable

The free offline glossary does not need an account or API key. For optional online detail, open Settings and confirm your Anthropic API key, model, online-explanation toggle, and acknowledgment.
