§ 02THE PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Start with the transactions, then build the tax story

If you earn through clients, platforms, projects, products, rideshare, delivery, or digital content, your records must do more than show the amount that reached your bank. This class gives you a practical way to connect money in, business purpose, proof, and the next tax action.

No accounting background is required. We use fictional examples and plain language so you can practice the decisions without sharing confidential documents.

What you will leave with

  • An income-source map that starts with transactions instead of waiting for tax forms.
  • A five-question framework for evaluating business expenses and mixed-use costs.
  • A federal and California estimated-tax workflow, including what to calendar and what proof to retain.
  • A monthly close, year-end file index, and 30-day implementation plan.
§ 03THREE-SESSION SYLLABUS
1November 7

Know what is taxable

Worker classification, the freelance tax stack, income forms, platform payments, cash, barter, digital-asset receipts, and entity vocabulary.

Practice: Reconcile a creator payout

Separate customer payments, platform fees, refunds, and bank deposits without counting the same receipt twice.

2November 14

Defend the deduction

Business-purpose tests, mixed-use expenses, vehicle and home-office records, and federal and California estimated taxes.

Practice: Build an expense evidence file

Explain business purpose, allocate a mixed-use cost, and identify the records still missing.

3November 21

Build the system

A monthly close, year-end tax file, California checkpoints, entity decision gates, and a workflow that is easier to maintain.

Practice: Run a fictional monthly close

Check an income-and-expense file, identify follow-up questions, and write a realistic 30-day routine.

§ 04START BEFORE CLASS

Arrive with a starting point

The free preparation materials are optional. Start with the short pack, then try one workbook exercise. No accounting experience, software purchase, or email signup is required.

  1. 01

    List your income channels

Write down the types of work and platforms you use. Leave out account numbers, client names, and passwords.

  2. 02

    Try a fictional example

Use the workbook or practice lab to identify what you know, what is missing, and the source you would check.

  3. 03

    Bring one systems question

Choose a question about records, timing, or a recurring decision. You can participate with a notebook; a laptop is optional.

Download the lab, open it locally, and practice with fictional examples between sessions.

Download interactive practice lab

Arc & Ledger provides these educational supplements. Downloading them does not enroll you in the PCC class. Use fictional facts for practice and keep personal tax documents private.

Try the first question

A creator's platform deposit is smaller than the amount customers paid. Is the bank deposit the whole income record?

Think it through, then reveal the explanation

Start by reconciling the customer charges, refunds, fees, and payout. The bank deposit alone can hide business activity. Record the separate items, check any information returns for overlaps, and keep the platform statement that explains the difference.
